Family Day Trips

Maybe it’s just me, but I believe summertime calls for a few extra-special family outings. Fortunately there are some great places just a few hours away from Greenville, South Carolina, that promise a fun-filled day for the whole family. Here are just a few of my favorites in North Carolina, courtesy of Kidding Around Greenville

Tweetsie Railroad

Blowing Rock, North Carolina

This is such a classic! People have been making memories at Tweetsie for years, and North Carolina’s first theme park remains a timeless favorite. Located just over 2.5 hours from Greenville, it’s a little bit of a drive, but well worth it. There are rides, a zoo, live entertain and of course… trains! The park will be open 7 days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., through August 25, 2019, with select days thereafter through the fall and early winter.

Tryon International Equestrian Center

Mill Spring, North Carolina

At less than an hour from Greenville, this is a must-do family adventure this summer! The Tryon Equestrian Center welcomes guests 365 days a year for food, shopping and to celebrate its love of horses. I particularly recommend the Saturday Night Lights Grand Prix show jumping competitions, which including face painting, performers, free rides on the center’s Venetian carousel and a live band!

Mountain Play Lodge

Arden, North Carolina

On those days when it’s simply too hot to do anything outside, check out the Mountain Play Lodge in Arden, NC. Located just south of Asheville, about an hour from Greenville, the indoor play center is perfect for children aged 10 and under. From castles, to pirate ships, to tree houses, it’s the perfect way to get your kids tired this summer without being out in the sun.
