The Olympic Edition
Team USA is off to a great start in the 2016 Olympic games! I’m always amazed at the talent of the athletes on the world stage. Did you know the South Carolina Upstate has several opportunities for world-class athletic training for people of all ages? I profile a few of them in this week’s blog post.
Team Greenville is a year-round competitive swim team. It is operated by Greenville County Rec at the state of the art Westside Aquatic Complex, located at 2700 West Blue Ridge Drive in Greenville. Team Greenville offers a wide variety of swimming programs for youth of all ages and abilities. Its outstanding coaching staff combines nearly 60 years of successful swim coaching at every level, from coaching beginning swimmers up to and including those at the Olympic level.
Greenville Gymnastics is the largest dedicated Gymnastics program in the South Carolina Upstate. It’s been training gymnasts for over 23 years! Many of Greenville Gymnastics’ competitive athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level under full scholarships. The program even has some Olympic connections, having been chosen as the training site for the 1996 Chinese Olympic Men’s and Women’s Teams, as well as the “first step” for USA 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, Kayla Ross.
Track & Field
The Greenville Track Club (GTC) was founded in 1972, making it the second oldest running club in South Carolina. It’s also the fastest growing Running Club in the Southeast. Members include athletes at every ability level and age group, from casual walkers to premier runners and track & field athletes throughout the southeast. “ELITE” is a post-collegiate team in partnership with GTC. It aims challenge for national championships, qualify for the US Olympic Trials and achieve top performances in regional and local running competitions.
